Me) What made the family move to Shanghai in the first place? Mom) Yun Ji’s dad went to Shanghai for business and and we stayed for 9 years until moving back to Korea.
Me) What are some advantages and disadvantages of moving to Shanghai. Mom) I’m pretty thankful that we moved to Shanghai when Yun Ji was 4 because if it wasn’t that, Yun Ji wouldn’t been able to learn English that young. She also got to start Chinese when she was really young. I don’t think there was any huge disadvantages.
Me) Why did you send Yun Ji to Shanghai American School when there was a Korean school available in Shanghai too?
Mom) I thought it was a better idea for her to an American School since she went to an International Kindergarten and most parents said Shanghai American School was a very good school for a child to attend. Also, the Korean school theres weren't developed that well since not a lot of Koreans were living there when we went. After a few years, the Korean school developed well but we thought it was better for her to not transfer school.
Me) How did this change the family’s life? Mom) Yun Ji’s life mostly changed because if she grew up in Korea, she would probably be attending a Korean School right now. I’m not say it’s bad or anything but she really enjoys going to Korea International School right now so I'm glad we moved.

A Passport Club is memorizing locations on the world map once in a couple of months and you receive a shirt if you were successful in all the checks. The white shirt is for the International Fair our school had each day. An International Fair is were everyone can play games and enjoy fun activities while having food from many countries. The blue shirt is a shirt representing 5th grade. We had competitions for design choosing and on the back of the shirt, there are signatures of every students and teachers of 5th grade that year. The interview is an interview with my mom asking questions about this event. I asked her many questions and how why she decided to do the things she did. The article link on the bottom of the pictures is an article about families moving overseas. It gives steps to what a family should do before moving overseas and our family went over those too.

The 3 shirts are also a primary source since they were made during the school year with many students participating. The interview is a primary source since my mom was directly involved in this event and I interviewed her. The written source is a secondary source because it gives information about moving overseas. It gives more information of the turning point of our family history, moving overseas.
Short Explanation of the Source's Significance to the Event: The yearbooks are important to my event because it has a lot of photos of the school year and tells the audience what events that school had each year. Yearbooks are one of the best objects you can show someone to prove that you went to this school and I thought a picture of the yearbooks would be the best to show how my life was in Shanghai. The shirts are important to my event because each shirt represents different events made at Shanghai while attending this school, like the International Fair. The written article gives steps to everyone moving overseas, the person who wrote the article has nothing directly involved with our family. It is significant because our family went through the things the article says too because we moved overseas.
Written Recount of the Event: 4 years after I was born in 1998, our family moved to Shanghai, a busy city in China. Moving to Shanghai made a big change in my life; actually, it changed my life completely. First of all, I could learn English and Chinese younger than most people living in Korea. and since I attended an international school called Shanghai American School from when I was young, I'm still attending an international school now. If my family didn't move to Shanghai, I would probably be in a Korean school right now and my lifestyle and learning style would be really different compared to right now. This event changed the part of education in my life completely and I'm happy with it since I'm really enjoying school life here at Korea International School right now. I sometimes wonder how my life would be right now if we didn't move to Shanghai. Timeline

After moving to Shanghai in 2001, the first school I attended was Kabeli Kindergarten. I learned my first Chinese and English there. In Rainbow International School, I improved my English more and a year later in 2004, I moved to Shanghai American School, the school I stayed until I left Shanghai.
Roles of a Historian
Detective: A detective is someone who finds evidence proving that a change occurred in history. I used my detective skills to find the sources of the turning point of my family history and thought about why it is a good source. I proved which sources were primary and which were secondary.
Interpreter: An interpreter is someone who decide what they want to prove historically after gathering all the information. I thought about what really happened. The interpretation skill was used to explain why each sources are significant to the turning point and think about what to write in my written recount of the event.
Judge: A judge is someone who looks at the evidence and decide which point of view is correct. I used my judging skill to choose sources and interpret them. After interpreting my sources, I could write my written recount.
Philosopher: A philosopher is someone who attach meaning to an event historically, meaning the person has to know 'Why should I care about this?". Our family moving to Shanghai was a big turning point of my life since what I'm learning right now and what colleges I'll go to in the future all changed because of this. If I stayed in Korea, I would be in a Korean School and my educational lifestyle will be different.
